Southampton Water Activities Centre <Return to Ribeye Training
SWAC is owned and managed by Southampton City Council. It is a purpose built water sports centre situated in the heart of Southampton's historic waterfront area adjacent to Ocean Village Marina. The Centre operates on the lower reaches of the River Itchen and Southampton Water, offering water sports and outdoor activities to schools, colleges, business, and the local community in general.
The Centre is recognised by the Royal Yachting Association for Dinghy Sailing, Powerboating, Windsurfing, Shorebased Navigation, Sail Cruising, First Aid, Sea Survival, VHF, Diesel Engine Maintenance and Instructor Training courses.
The centre offers powerboat courses to people from 8 years upward, using a selection of boats from our fleet of 16 powerboats that includes a Ribtec 455 and 655 and two Ribeye 785’s powered by single Yamaha 200hp and twin Yamaha 115hp’s. Courses on offer range from RYA Level 1 through Level 2, Intermediate and Advanced to Advanced Instructor level.
The centre also offers one-to-one training for individuals or small groups who may require a specific course or specialist training tailored to their particular needs. Skills covered range from mooring on particularly tricky berths to high speed navigation or the use of onboard electronic navigation equipment.
The centres location is within easy access to the Solent, making it an the ideal place to learn the skills to navigate and skipper a high speed powerboat with popular destinations such as Hamble, Cowes, Portsmouth, Beaulieu, Lymington and Yarmouth all within easy reach.
